Heading home

Anna Kate woke up Saturday morning and immediately said she didn't want to go home. I was a little worried it was going to get ugly when we loaded up the car. She came around and all-in-all they remained in good spirits. They both at different times on Saturday told us that they would need to go back to the beach next week.  If only we lived that close!  They traveled home as well as the trip there. They napped the last few hours of the ride and that kept the peace.  Our first beach trip was a complete success and I can't wait to go again next year!
 Shenanigans in the backseat!
We did have to break out  the heavy artillery (DumDums) about an hour before our stop for lunch.
Anna Kate got to chew her first piece of gum thanks to Aunt Ashley. It lasted about 10 minutes before she swallowed it.

Beach Day #4

Day 4 was great weather and all about spending time outside. We spent the morning mostly at the pool. We came back in for lunch and naps then hit the beach again. We wanted to make the most of our last day there.
Can you guess where their favorite spot in the condo was? The spiral staircase, of course!
Jumping in the freezing pool. The love the water no matter what!
She makes a good beach bum!
Of course we had to get the diggers out to move some sand.
Fed, napped, and ready to go! Do you think he is excited? :)
 Discussing their castle building strategy.
Playing together nicely. This didn't last long.
 My other beach bum.
Loving the waves. He would sit down right where they were breaking and would let them knock him over.
 Daddy's girl
 "Posing"
We felt a little over confident before dinner and thought we could get some of the cute beach pictures. They were quite cooperative for the 3 year session so I thought it may work. Not so much.
"If you want a picture, you'll have to catch us!"
They're cute even though they are uncooperative.
This was Aunt Ashley's personal favorite. After this, they made their way down to the water and it was all downhill from there. (Did you even know if could go downhill from this?!?)

Beach Day 3

Our third day at the beach brought better weather. We had already planned to go to Charleston for the morning since it had been so chilly so we packed up and headed out. The highlight of the trip for Drew and Anna Kate was going over the big bridge that had "trinangles". We found a place to park and set out to explore.  Drew and Anna Kate spotted some fountains almost immediately and you know my water babies wanted in. We convinced them they should remain dry. We walked out onto the boardwalk and looked around some before heading down to Market Street to look through the Market. Grandaddy had planned to take everyone on a horse and carriage ride. We spent only enough time in the Market to grab some t-shirts for Drew and Anna Kate before finding out the wait for the carriage rides were pretty long and the rides themselves were 45 minutes so we headed off to get in line.  The carriage and horses were exciting for D & AK but the tour itself wasn't designed for 3 year olds.  Despite having to sit still for quite some time and listen to someone talk about things they knew or cared nothing about, they were really good.  They had snacks and watched themselves go by in the shop windows. After our tour we grabbed some lunch and then headed back to our condo for some beach time! Charleston was a really neat city and I hope to be able to go back someday! It is definitely more interesting for adults so maybe I can even arrange for an adult only vacation in the future!
Strolling in the city.  A lot of the sidewalks in Charleston are still the old cobblestone and not very conducive for strollers. It was a bumpy ride to say the least!
Checking out all of the sites.
 Our horse and carriage.
Drew held out for as long as he could but he was so very tired!
Lunch time! Notice the Sprite & sweet tea? Apparently vacation means eating/drinking things they don't normally get too!

Anna Kate and Drew rested in the car and as soon as we got back to the condo we changed into our bathing suits and headed for the beach.
It was the first day it wasn't too windy to put up umbrellas. The weather was warm and great!
Serious digging happened on the beach!

Drew is definitely my ocean lover. He just went straight in with zero fear or intimidation. Sometimes, a little fear is a good thing. We really had to watch him and stay close.
"Fishing" with a piece of seaweed.
Anna Kate saw some older girls that she was dying to play with. She even went up to one of them and asked her what her name was and what her friends' names were. My little social butterfly! One of the girls was sweet enough to humor her and show her how to draw a mermaid in the sand.

Pretty girl!
Thursday night was the Harvest Moon and it was beautiful over the ocean! It was so bright, the majority of pictures I took made it look like it was daylight.  The pictures don't do it justice.

Beach Day #2

I took an absurd amount a pictures (admittedly of basically the same thing) so I figured I'd break my posts up into days.  This trip was great and I want to be sure I remember all of the details of Anna Kate and Drew's first vacation!
Day 2 was also windy and chilly. We tried to brave the cold and went to the beach first thing that morning. It was too much and we went back in for lunch. We discussed taking a trip to Charleston for the afternoon but while we were inside for lunch, the sun came out and it seemed like the weather was going to turn nice. So, we went back to the pool and beach for the afternoon. They weather didn't get much better but we made the most of it.
Excited for Day 2 at the beach!
Hauling all of our toys. Anna Kate is wearing a cover up that was mine when I was little!
Of course, he went straight to the water. We couldn't even get his shirt off first!
Miss Priss got mad because Drew got a little too close to her sand castle she had been working so hard on.
Anna Kate became a runner while we were on vacation. I am pretty sure she ran no less than 10 miles every day up and down the beach!
It was cold so we got creative!
Looking for good shells with Dad
DotDot's homemade spaghetti on the balcony while listening to the ocean. Does it get better than that?!
After dinner drama. Drew dropped his favorite Cars cup off of the balcony and was devastated. Daddy came to the rescue.
A little night stroll to walk off dinner.
Worn out!
